"SEAVIEW HARBOR TO BLOCK ISLAND SAIL RALLY"

 

Attention all boaters :

Please consider joining us for a roundtrip sailing adventure this summer originating from Seaview Harbor Marina in Longport, NJ.  This is approximately a week long journey starting in Longport with scheduled stops at Montauk Marina, Long Island - Block Island, RI and Port Washington NY and others.  By joining our rally, you will experience the open sea, the long Island Sound and the Hudson river all in one trip while enjoying the camaraderie as well as the security of a group. 

SPECIAL INFORMATION:

  • Participating boats should have a minimum  of three persons aboard (skipper and 2 crew members) for rotation at the helm on the overnight at sea portion of the trip.
  • Due to its proximity to transportation, Montauk Point is an excellent location if you intend to change, pick up or drop crew members.
  • All boats under power or sail (see requirements below) are invited to join the rally and can join at any leg of the journey. 
  • The total journey is approximately 180 nautical miles/ by  sailboat expect  25 to 30 hours sailing.

The objectives of the Boat Rally are:

·         To share a safe interesting, and fun sailing adventure for the participants.

·         To share the camaraderie among individuals who have a particular appreciation for adventure.

·         To promote general interest in seamanship and use of our waterways in recreation, adventure, and fun.

·         To enable each participant to immerse themselves in the rich history of these areas also by bike and by foot at the many stops.  

·         To encourage the development of interest and skills in sailing and navigation.

Want to join us in the 2010 Seaview run ? Requirements:

1.  
Boat requirements: Sailboats . Auxiliary engine required.

2.  
Skipper requirements: General competence in sailboat handling in tidal conditions, familiar with coastal navigation. Teams of three or more, rotating at the helm for the overnight run, seem to work best.

3.  
Safety equipment requirements: All requirements of the U.S. Coast Guard for day sailing (night lights required). Particularly, PFD for each person on board, one throw able (seat cushion), anchor with at least 100 feet of line, whistle or horn noise maker, bilge pump, compass, VHF radio, navigating charts (plus GPS with "Blue Charts" highly recommended).

4.  
Expenses: This is a shared expense, non-profit, event. Each participant will bear his own dockage, hotel, dining, and direct sailing expenses.

  •  SAIL DATE: Saturday July 23ed, 2011 (weather permitting)This date is set to take maximum advantage of tidal currents, weather and decreased chance of fog.
  • MEETINGS: There will be several informal meetings to help with preparations.  Meetings are not mandatory but you'll find them highly informative
  • NEXT MEETING: Saturday call - 1000AM  Seaview Harbor Marina Clubhouse.
  • ORGANIZERS: 
    Stanley Fleishman. Stanley can be seen on D dock at Seaview Harbor Marina tending to his 46 foot Jenneau.
    He and his wife Tricia have been sailing together for over 30 years and have a wealth of sailing experience between them.  They have sailed this voyage many, many times.
    Craig Bates will be assisting with communication and web site information. Craig also admits to at least 30 years at the helm.
    He Can be found on C dock on his 36 foot C&C.
